ময়মনসিংহের ভালুকা উপজেলায় গত বৃহস্পতিবার রাতে সড়ক দুর্ঘটনায় আহত হন এক নারী। তাঁর সঙ্গে ছিল দেড় বছর বয়সী এক শিশু। স্থানীয় মানুষেরা বিষয়টি টের পেয়ে জরুরি নম্বর ৯৯৯-এ কল দেন। পুলিশ তাঁদের উদ্ধার করে ময়মনসিংহ মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে পাঠায়।

চিকিৎসাধীন অবস্থায় শুক্রবার রাতে ওই নারীর মৃত্যু হয়। কিন্তু তখনো জানা যায়নি তাঁর পরিচয়। এদিকে মায়ের কাছে যাবে বলে কেঁদেই চলে শিশুটি, তার কপালেও আঘাত। স্ট্রেচারে পড়ে থাকা মায়ের নিথর দেহের ওপর শুয়ে কাঁদছিল সে। আহত শিশুটিকে সেখান থেকে সরিয়ে হাসপাতালের ওয়ার্ডে রেখে চিকিৎসা দেওয়া হয় আর মায়ের লাশ রাখা হয় হিমাগারে।

হৃদয়বিদারক এ ঘটনা মুহূর্তে সামাজিক যোগাযোগমাধ্যমের সাহায্যে ছড়িয়ে পড়ে। সেটা দেখে রোববার দুপুরে হাসপাতালে ছুটে আসেন ওই নারীর স্বজনেরা। স্বজনদের দেখেও কান্না থামছে না শিশুটির। তার দুই চোখ খুঁজে চলছে মাকে।

শিশুটির নাম মেহেদি হাসান। তার মায়ের নাম জায়েদা (৩২)। তিনি সুনামগঞ্জের দোয়ারাবাজার উপজেলার কুশিউড়া গ্রামের বাসিন্দা মো. রমিজ উদ্দিনের মেয়ে। রোববার দুপুরে নিহত জায়েদার বড় ভাই মো. রবিন মিয়া খবর পেয়ে ময়মনসিংহ মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে যান। রবিন মিয়া বলেন, ‘ফেসবুকে দেখে জানতে পেরে আমি ময়মনসিংহ মেডিকেলে এসেছি এবং পুলিশের মাধ্যমে পরিচয় নিশ্চিত করেছি। আমার বোন ভালুকায় চাকরি করত। বোন শুধু ঈদে বাড়ি যেত। প্রতি সপ্তাহে তার সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ হতো। বোন হারিয়ে গেছে। বোনের সন্তানকে নিজের কাছে রেখে বড় করতে চাই।’

ভালুকা মডেল থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা শাহ কামাল আকন্দ জানান, ধারণা করা হচ্ছে, বৃহস্পতিবার রাতে জায়েদা রাস্তা পার হতে গিয়ে সড়ক দুর্ঘটনার শিকার হন। জায়েদা ভালুকা উপজেলার স্কয়ার মাস্টারবাড়ি এলাকায় বসবাস করতেন। দুর্ঘটনার পর স্থানীয় ব্যক্তিরা ৯৯৯ নম্বরে কল করে পুলিশের মাধ্যমে হতাহতদের উদ্ধার করে ভালুকা স্বাস্থ্য কমপ্লেক্সে নিয়ে যান। সেখানকার কর্তব্যরত চিকিৎসক সঙ্গে সঙ্গে তাঁদের ময়মনসিংহ মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালে স্থানান্তর করেন। সেখান থেকে সরকারি অ্যাম্বুলেন্সে করে তাঁদের ময়মনসিংহে পাঠানো হয়।

হাসপাতাল সূত্র জানায়, শুক্রবার রাত আটটার দিকে ওই নারী মারা যান। আর শিশুটি হাসপাতালের ২৬ নম্বর ওয়ার্ডে ভর্তি করা হয়। শিশুটিকে ওয়ার্ডের অন্য রোগীর স্বজনেরা দেখভাল করেন।

ময়মনসিংহ মেডিকেল কলেজ হাসপাতালের পরিচালক ব্রিগেডিয়ার জেনারেল মো. গোলাম ফেরদৌস রোববার বলেন, শিশুর স্বজনের পরিচয় শতভাগ নিশ্চিত না হওয়া পর্যন্ত তাঁকে হস্তান্তর করা হবে না। এ ব্যাপারে পুলিশ কাজ করছে। এ ছাড়া শিশুটি হাসপাতালে চিকিৎসা নিচ্ছে। বর্তমানে সে শঙ্কামুক্ত। আর ময়নাতদন্ত শেষে জায়েদার লাশ স্বজনদের কাছে হস্তান্তর করা হয়েছে।
