হেলিকপ্টার বিধ্বস্তের পর কয়েক ঘণ্টা পেরিয়ে গেলেও ইরানের প্রেসিডেন্ট ইব্রাহিম রাইসি ও পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী হোসেইন আমির আব্দোল্লাহিয়ানের খোঁজ পাওয়া যায়নি। তাঁদের সন্ধান পেতে ইরানের পূর্ব আজারবাইজান প্রদেশের দুর্গম পাহাড়ি এলাকায় চলছে ব্যাপক তল্লাশি অভিযান। তবে বৈরী আবহাওয়ার কারণে উদ্ধার অভিযান ব্যাহত হচ্ছে বলে জানিয়েছেন দেশটির কর্মকর্তারা।
রোববার আজারবাইজান সীমান্তবর্তী এলাকায় একটি বাঁধ উদ্বোধন করতে যান ইরানের প্রেসিডেন্ট ইব্রাহিম রাইসি। সেখানে আজারবাইজানের প্রেসিডেন্ট ইলহাম আলিয়েভও ছিলেন। সেখান থেকে তিনটি হেলিকপ্টারের বহর নিয়ে পূর্ব আজারবাইজান প্রদেশের রাজধানী তাবরিজে ফিরছিলেন ইব্রাহিম রাইসি ও তাঁর সঙ্গে থাকা অন্য কর্মকর্তারা। পথে পূর্ব আজারবাইজানের জোলফা এলাকার কাছে প্রেসিডেন্টকে বহনকারী হেলিকপ্টারটি বিধ্বস্ত হয়। অন্য দুটি হেলিকপ্টার নিরাপদে গন্তব্যে পৌঁছেছে।
বিধ্বস্ত হেলিকপ্টারে ইরানের প্রেসিডেন্ট ও পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী ছাড়াও পূর্ব আজারবাইজান প্রদেশের গভর্নর মালেক রহমতি এবং এ প্রদেশে ইরানের সর্বোচ্চ নেতা আয়াতুল্লা আলি খামেনির মুখপাত্র আয়াতুল্লাহ মোহাম্মদ আলী আলে–হাশেম ছিলেন। দুর্ঘটনার কয়েক ঘণ্টা পরও বিধ্বস্ত হেলিকপ্টারটির অবস্থান শনাক্ত করতে না পারায় তাঁদের জীবিত উদ্ধার করা নিয়ে শঙ্কা দেখা দিয়েছে।
নাম প্রকাশে অনিচ্ছুক ইরানের একজন কর্মকর্তা এএফপিকে বলেন, ‘আমরা এখনো আশাবাদী। তবে দুর্ঘটনাস্থল থেকে যেসব খবর আসছে তা খুবই উদ্বেগজনক। বৈরী আবহাওয়া ও তীব্র কুয়াশা উদ্ধারকারীদের দুর্ঘটনাস্থলে যাওয়ার পথ জটিল করেছে।’
দেশটির আবহাওয়া দপ্তর বলছে, ওই এলাকায় সোমবার রাত পর্যন্ত বৈরী আবহাওয়া থাকতে পারে। স্থানীয় আবহাওয়া দপ্তরের একজন কর্মকর্তা বলেন, প্রেসিডেন্টকে বহনকারী হেলিকপ্টার যেখানে বিধ্বস্ত হয়েছে সেখানে রাতভর বৃষ্টি ও ভারী কুয়াশা থাকতে পারে। সোমবার পর্যন্ত এমন আবহাওয়া থাকতে পারেও বলে জানান তিনি।
