যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের প্রেসিডেন্ট জো বাইডেনের প্রশাসন ইসরায়েলকে আরও ১০০ কোটি ডলারের অস্ত্র ও গোলাবারুদ পাঠাবে। প্রশাসনের তরফ থেকে কয়েকজন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ আইনপ্রণেতাকে এ তথ্য জানানো হয়েছে। আর গতকাল মঙ্গলবার বিষয়টি প্রকাশ করেছে কংগ্রেসের সঙ্গে সংশ্লিষ্ট তিনটি সূত্র।
তবে কত দ্রুত এসব অস্ত্রশস্ত্র ও গোলা পাঠানো হবে, তা তাৎক্ষণিকভাবে জানা যায়নি।
ফিলিস্তিনের গাজার ঘনবসতিপূর্ণ রাফা শহরে ইসরায়েলের সর্বাত্মক স্থল অভিযান শুরুর সম্ভাবনার প্রেক্ষাপটে দেশটিতে চলতি মাসে অস্ত্রের এক চালান পাঠানোর বিষয়টি স্থগিত করে মার্কিন প্রশাসন। এরই মধ্যে দেশটিকে আবার বিপুল পরিমাণে অস্ত্র ও গোলা পাঠানো নিয়ে ওই তথ্য বেরিয়ে এল। স্থগিত করা চালানের মধ্যে রয়েছে ২,০০০ পাউন্ড পর্যন্ত ওজনের ৩ হাজার ৫০০ বোমা।
বোমার চালান স্থগিত করার কারণ হিসেবে গাজায় বেসামরিক লোকজনের হতাহতের ঘটনা নিয়ে নিজেদের উদ্বেগের কথা জানিয়ে বাইডেন প্রশাসন বলেছিল, দক্ষিণ গাজার ঘনবসতিপূর্ণ রাফায়, বিশেষ করে এসব বোমার ব্যবহার ঠেকাতেই ইসরায়েলকে চালান পাঠানো স্থগিত করেছে তারা।
আগামী নভেম্বরে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে অনুষ্ঠেয় প্রেসিডেন্ট নির্বাচনে সাবেক প্রেসিডেন্ট ও রিপাবলিকান পার্টির সম্ভাব্য প্রার্থী ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্পের সঙ্গে প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতায় নামছেন জো বাইডেন। কিন্তু গাজা উপত্যকায় ইসরায়েলের চলমান অভিযানে দেশটিকে অব্যাহতভাবে সমর্থন দিয়ে চলায় নিজ দলের ভেতর থেকেই সমালোচনা ও চাপের মুখে রয়েছেন তিনি। গাজায় সাত মাসের বেশি সময় ধরে চলা ইসরায়েলি বাহিনীর নারকীয় হামলায় ৩৫ হাজারের বেশি ফিলিস্তিনি নিহত হয়েছেন।
এদিকে বোমার চালান স্থগিত করলেও প্রেসিডেন্ট বাইডেন ও তাঁর প্রশাসনের কর্মকর্তারা স্পষ্ট করে দিয়েছেন, ইসরায়েলকে অন্যান্য অস্ত্রের সরবরাহ ও সার্বিক সামরিক সমর্থন দিয়ে যাবেন তাঁরা।
