ব্যাংক ও আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠানে পুলিশের সাবেক মহাপরিদর্শক (আইজিপি) বেনজীর আহমেদ ও তার পরিবারের সদস্যদের নগদ অর্থের তথ্য চেয়ে বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের আর্থিক গোয়েন্দা বিভাগ বাংলাদেশ ফিন্যান্সিয়াল ইন্টেলিজেন্স ইউনিটকে (বিএফআইইউ) চিঠি দিয়েছে দুর্নীতি দমন কমিশন (দুদক)। মে মাসের প্রথম সপ্তাহের মধ্যে দুদককে এসব তথ্য সরবরাহ করতে বলা হয়েছে। একইসঙ্গে এফডিআর, সঞ্চয়পত্রসহ স্থাবর-অস্থাবর সম্পদের তথ্য জানতে চেয়ে জয়েন্ট স্টক, সাব-রেজিস্ট্রি অফিসসহ সরকারের বিভিন্ন দপ্তরে চিঠি দিয়েছে সংস্থাটি। দুদকের অনুসন্ধান দল এসব বিষয়ে জানতে বেনজীরকে জিজ্ঞাসাবাদ করবে বলে জানিয়েছেন দুদকের কমিশনার জহুরুল হক।
গত সোমবার বেনজীর আহমেদের সম্পদ নিয়ে অনুসন্ধানে তিন সদস্যের একটি কমিটি কাজ শুরু করার কথা জানায় দুদক সচিব খোরশেদা ইয়াসমীন। সচিব জানান, এ অভিযোগের বিষয়ে দুর্নীতি দমন কমিশন বিধিমালা, ২০০৭ এর ৩ নং বিধির আওতায় কার্যক্রম শুরু করা হয়। দুর্নীতি দমন কমিশন আইন, ২০০৪ এর ১৫ নং ধারার বিধান অনুযায়ী গত ১৮ই এপ্রিল কমিশন সভায় বেনজীর আহমেদের বিরুদ্ধে অবৈধ সম্পদ অর্জনের অভিযোগ অনুসন্ধানের জন্য অনুমোদিত হয়। সংশ্লিষ্ট আইন ও বিধি মোতাবেক নির্ধারিত সময়সীমার মধ্যে অনুসন্ধান সমাপ্ত করে আইনানুগ ব্যবস্থা গ্রহণ করা হবে। দুদক সূত্র জানায়, বেনজীর আহমেদের সম্পদ নিয়ে দুদকের অনুসন্ধান কমিটির সদস্যরা হলেন- উপ-পরিচালক হাফিজুল ইসলাম, সহকারী পরিচালক নিয়ামুল হাসান গাজী ও জয়নাল আবেদীন।
বেনজীর আহমেদের সম্পদের বিষয়ে গণমাধ্যমে প্রকাশিত অভিযোগ অনুসন্ধানের নির্দেশনা চেয়ে হাইকোর্টে একটি রিট করেছেন সুপ্রিম কোর্টের আইনজীবী মো. সালাহ উদ্দিন রিগ্যান।
