৭ই মে রাত আনুমানিক ৮টা। ঘটনাস্থল গুলশান ৯০ নম্বর সড়কের ইউনাইটেড ন্যাশনস হাইকমিশনার ফর রিফিউজিস (ইউএনএইচআর) অফিসের সন্নিকটে পলাশের চায়ের দোকানের সামনে। ওই সড়কের নেদারল্যান্ড অ্যাম্বাসি প্রান্ত থেকে আসছিল একটি প্রাইভেটকার। প্রাইভেটকারের ভেতরে চালকসহ আরও ৪-৫ জন যাত্রী ছিলেন। একই সময় ৮৬ নম্বর সড়ক দিয়ে আসা একজন বাইসাইকেল চালক ৯০ নম্বর সড়কে ওঠার চেষ্টা করছিলেন। এ সময় কিছুটা গতিতে আসা প্রাইভেটকারের সঙ্গে সংঘর্ষ হয় বাইসাইকেলের। শুরু হয় দুই পক্ষের মধ্যে কথা কাটাকাটি। তাদের বাকবিতণ্ডায় সড়কে যানজট ও বিশৃঙ্খলার সৃষ্টি হয়। ঘটনাস্থলের পাশেই অবস্থান করছিলেন মিশর দূতাবাসে দায়িত্বরত পুলিশ সদস্য মোরসালিন। তিনি তার এক সহকর্মীকে নিয়ে ছুটে এসে প্রাইভেটকারের চালকের আসনে থাকা ব্যক্তিকে যানজটের সৃষ্টি হচ্ছে তাই রাস্তা থেকে সরে যাওয়ার অনুরোধ করেন।
কিন্তু তার কথায় ওই চালক কর্ণপাত করেননি। তখন কিছুটা উচ্চস্বরে মোরসালিন তাকে সরে যাওয়ার জন্য বলেন। একইসঙ্গে তিনি তার বেপরোয়া গাড়ি চালিয়ে বাইসাইকেলের ক্ষতি করার বিষয়টি উল্লেখ করেন। মোরসালিনের কথা শুনে চটে যান ওই ব্যক্তি। তাদের মধ্যেও শুরু হয় কথা কাটাকাটি। একপর্যায়ে ওই ব্যক্তি মোরসালিনকে মারধর করতে থাকেন। কলার চেপে ধরায় পাশের একজন চা দোকানি এসে বাধা দেন। পরে তিনিও মারধরের শিকার হন। পরিস্থিতি উত্তপ্ত হওয়ায় মোরসালিন মারধর থেকে বাঁচার জন্য মিশর দূতাবাসের দিকে দৌড় দেন। এসময় প্রাইভেটকারে থাকা উত্তেজিত ব্যক্তিও তার পেছন পেছন গিয়ে আবার মারতে থাকেন। মারধরের কারণে মোরসালিনের গায়ে থাকা পুলিশের পোশাক ছিঁড়ে যায়। তখন সেখানে উপস্থিত উত্তেজিত জনতা ওই ব্যক্তিকে কিছুক্ষণ আটকে রাখেন। খবর পেয়ে ঘটনাস্থলে ছুটে আসে গুলশান থানা পুলিশ। তারা এসে পরিস্থিতি সামাল দেয়ার চেষ্টা করেন। কিছুক্ষণ পর সেখানে আরও দু’টি গাড়ি আসে। সেই গাড়ির লোকজন ঘটনাস্থলে আসার পর পুলিশের মধ্যস্থতায় পরিস্থিতি শান্ত হয়।
সরজমিন ঘটনাস্থল পরিদর্শন, প্রত্যক্ষদর্শী, চায়ের দোকানি, বিভিন্ন ভবনের নিরাপত্তাকর্মীসহ বিভিন্ন শ্রেণি-পেশার লোকের সঙ্গে কথা বলে ঘটনার সত্যতা নিশ্চিত হওয়া গেছে। প্রত্যক্ষদর্শী ও একাধিক সূত্র থেকে নিশ্চিত হওয়া গেছে পুলিশকে মারধর করা ওই ব্যক্তি একজন ভিভিআইপির নাতি। ঘটনার সময় তিনিই প্রাইভেটকার চালাচ্ছিলেন। গাড়িতে ওই সময় কয়েকজন যুবক ছিলেন। তারা ওই ভিভিআইপির নাতির বন্ধু। পরিস্থিতি উত্তপ্ত দেখে ওই বন্ধুরা সেখান থেকে চলে যান। গুলশান থানা পুলিশ আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে ঘটনার সত্যতা স্বীকার করেনি। থানার ভারপ্রাপ্ত কর্মকর্তা মাজহারুল ইসলাম জানিয়েছেন এ ধরনের কোনো ঘটনা তার জানা নেই। কোনো পক্ষই এ নিয়ে কোনো অভিযোগ করেননি। এ ঘটনা নিয়ে পুলিশের বিভিন্ন পর্যায় থেকেও কথা বলতে অপারগতা জানানো হয়েছে। তবে নাম প্রকাশ না করার শর্তে গুলশান থানা ও ডিএমপি’র উচ্চপদস্থ একাধিক পুলিশ কর্মকর্তা ঘটনার সত্যতা স্বীকার করে বলেন, পুলিশের পক্ষ থেকে মিটমাট করে দেয়া হয়েছে। ঘটনাস্থলে সরজমিন উপস্থিত ছিলেন এমন কয়েকটি নির্ভরযোগ্য সূত্র জানিয়েছে, ঘটনার পর দুটি গাড়ি এসে ভিভিআইপির নাতিকে সেখান থেকে নিয়ে যায়।
বৃহস্পতিবার সরজমিন দেখা যায়, ঢাকা উত্তর সিটি করপোরেশনের পেছনের সড়ক দিয়ে ৯০ নম্বর সড়ক দিয়ে উঠতেই প্রথমে পড়ে নেদারল্যান্ড দূতাবাস। তার সামনে বাম পাশে ৮৬ নম্বর সড়ক। এই সড়কের মুখেই দ্য অ্যাড্রেস ১১/এ বহুতলবিশিষ্ট একটি ভবন। ডানপাশেই ডেভেলপার প্রতিষ্ঠান নাভানার নির্মাণাধীন একটি ভবন। তার উল্টোদিকে ৭/এ ইস্টার্ন হাউজিংয়ের একটি নির্মাণাধীন বহুতল ভবন। এর পাশেই ইউনাইটেড ন্যাশনস হাইকমিশনার ফর রিফিউজিস অফিস। তার পাশে মিশরের দূতাবাস। রাস্তার উল্টো পাশে উত্তর সিটি করপোরেশনের গাড়ি ওয়াশ সেন্টার। ঘটনার সূত্রপাত হয়েছে ৮৬ নম্বর সড়কের মুখে দ্য অ্যাড্রেস ও উল্টো পাশের নাভানার নির্মাণাধীন ভবনের সামনে।
বৃহস্পতিবার মিশর দূতাবাসে দায়িত্বরত পুলিশ কনস্টেবল বিপ্লব ও মেহেদী ঘটনার সত্যতা স্বীকার করে বলেন, ঘটনার পর থেকে মারধরের শিকার মোরসালিন আর ডিউটিতে আসেন না। শুনেছি তিনি অসুস্থ। তবে এখান থেকে যাওয়ার সময় তিনি হেঁটেই গেছেন। মোরসালিন ডিএমপি’র পিওএম ডিভিশনে চাকরি করেন।
৯০ নং সড়কে নাভানা’র নির্মাণাধীন ভবনে রঙের কাজের তদারকি করেন মিজান। তিনি মানবজমিনকে বলেন, ঘটনার সময় আমি চায়ের দোকানে ছিলাম। আমার চোখের সামনে ঘটনা ঘটেছে। প্রাইভেটকারের সঙ্গে বাইসাইকেলের সংঘর্ষ হয়। প্রাইভেটকারের ভেতরে কয়েকজনকে দেখতে পেয়েছি। আর বাইসাইকেলে একজন ছিলেন। সংঘর্ষে বাইসাইকেলের একটি চাকা দুমড়ে-মুচড়ে যায়। প্রথমে বাইসাইকেলের চালকের সঙ্গে প্রাইভেটকারের চালকের কথা কাটাকাটি হয়। মাঝ রাস্তায় তাদের বাকবিতণ্ডায় যানজটের সৃষ্টি হয়। তখন দু’জন কনস্টেবল প্রাইভেটকারের চালককে দোষারোপ করেন। এভাবে বেপরোয়া গাড়ি চালানোর কারণ এবং উল্টো বাইসাইকেল চালককে কেন দোষারোপ করছেন তার কারণ জানতে চান। এ সময় মোরসালিন তাকে রাস্তা থেকে সরে দাঁড়ানোর জন্য বলেন। কনস্টেবল মোরসালিনের কথা শুনে প্রাইভেটকারের চালক উত্তেজিত হয়ে যান। কথা কাটাকাটির একপর্যায়ে ওই ব্যক্তি মোরসালিনের কলার ধরে মারতে থাকেন। কনস্টেবল মোরসালিন নিজেকে মারধরের হাত থেকে বাঁচানোর জন্য মিশর দূতাবাসের পুলিশ বুথে গিয়ে আশ্রয় নেন। এ সময় ওই চালক পুলিশকে পেছন থেকে লাথি মারতে থাকেন। ঘটনার সময় এসব দৃশ্য দেখে রাস্তার দুইপাশে অনেক মানুষ জড়ো হন। তারা ওই চালককে আটকে রাখেন। ততক্ষণে তিনি কাউকে ফোন দিয়ে বিষয়টি জানান। তার কিছুক্ষণ পর দু’টি গাড়ি এসে ঘটনাস্থলে পৌঁছায়।
অন্যদিকে গুলশান থানা পুলিশের একটি টিমও সেখানে আসে। গুলশান থানা পুলিশ বিষয়টি মিটমাট করে দেয়। পরে ওই দু’টি গাড়িতে করে আসা লোকজন প্রাইভেটকারের চালককে তুলে নিয়ে যায়। তিনি বলেন, মানুষের কাছ থেকে জানতে পেরেছি প্রাইভেটকারের চালক সাধারণ কেউ ছিলেন না।
ঘটনাস্থলের সন্নিকটে ইউনাইটেড হাসপাতাল। ওই হাসপাতালের দু’জন কর্মী নাম প্রকাশ না করার শর্তে বলেন, শুক্রবার ছাড়া প্রতিদিনই অফিস ছুটির পর সহকর্মীরা ৯০ নম্বর সড়কে বসে আড্ডা দেন। বৃহস্পতিবার রাতেও তারা পলাশের চায়ের দোকানে বসে চা খাচ্ছিলেন। এ সময় তারা দেখেন একটি প্রাইভেটকারের সঙ্গে বাইসাইকেলের সংঘর্ষ হয়েছে। প্রাইভেটকারের তেমন ক্ষতি না হলেও বাইসাইকেল ব্যাপক ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়। এ সময় দু’পক্ষের মধ্যে হট্টগোল শুরু হয়। প্রাইভেটকারে থাকা ব্যক্তি একজন পুলিশ সদস্যকে মারধর করেন।
নাভানার নিরাপত্তাকর্মী মনির বলেন, আমি সেদিন ডিউটিতেই ছিলাম। তখন হট্টগোলের শব্দ শুনতে পাই। এই রোডে প্রায়ই ঝামেলা হয় তাই প্রথমে গুরুত্ব দেইনি। কিন্তু পরে দেখলাম বিষয়টি জটিল। প্রাইভেটকার থেকে বের হয়ে একজন লোক পুলিশকে মারধর করছে। ওই পুলিশ সদস্য মারধর থেকে বাঁচার জন্য মিশর দূতাবাসের দিকে দৌড় দেন। কিন্তু ওই ব্যক্তি খুবই উত্তেজিত ছিলেন। পুলিশের পেছন পেছন গিয়েও লাথি মারছিলেন। পুলিশ সদস্য দূতাবাসে গিয়ে আশ্রয় নেয়। পরে ডিউটিতে থাকার কারণে আমরা ওদিকে যাইনি। তবে কিছুক্ষণ পরে সেখানে পুলিশের কয়েকটি গাড়ি আসতে দেখেছি। পুলিশ আসার পর বিষয়টি সমাধান হয়।
ঢাকা দক্ষিণ সিটি করপোরেশনের গাড়ি ওয়াশ সেন্টারের ক্লিনার আলমগীর হোসেন বলেন, ঘটনার সময় আমি ভেতরেই ছিলাম। কিছুই টের পাইনি। পরে সবার কাছ থেকে জানতে পারলাম বড় ঘটনা ঘটেছে। পুলিশকে মারধর করা হয়েছে।
গুলশান এলাকার ৬২৮ নং রিকশাচালক নাম প্রকাশ না করার শর্তে বলেন, ইউনিমার্টের দিক থেকে প্রাইভেটকারটি বেপরোয়া গতিতে আসছিল। আর ৮৬ নম্বর সড়ক দিয়ে বাইসাইকেল আসছিল। বাইসাইকেল চালক দিক বিভ্রান্ত হওয়ায় প্রাইভেটকারের সঙ্গে সংঘর্ষ ঘটে। প্রাইভেটকারটি সামনে গিয়ে থামে। দুই পক্ষের মধ্যে টুকটাক কথা হচ্ছিলো। একজন আরেক জনকে দুষছিলেন। এ সময় দুইজন পুলিশ সদস্য মিশর দূতাবাসের দিকে যাচ্ছিলেন। তারাও ঘটনাস্থলে দাঁড়ান। প্রাইভেটকারের চালক বাইসাইকেল চালককে এক তরফা দোষারোপ করছেন দেখে পুলিশ সদস্যরা প্রাইভেটকারের চালকের সঙ্গে কথা বলেন। হঠাৎ করেই পুলিশের ওপর চটে যান প্রাইভেটকারের চালক। একপর্যায়ে তিনি মোরসালিন নামের এক পুলিশের কলার ধরে মারতে থাকেন। আর জিজ্ঞাসা করেন তুই কোন থানায় ডিউটি করিস? তোর আইডি নম্বর কতো? এ সময় পুলিশকে উদ্দেশ্য করে খারাপ ভাষায় বকতে থাকেন। পুলিশের কলার ধরে মারার কারণে ঘটনাস্থলের পাশের চায়ের দোকানি পলাশ এসে প্রাইভেটকারের চালককে জিজ্ঞাসা করেন পুলিশের কলার কেন চেপে ধরছেন? তার পরিচয় জিজ্ঞাসা করে কলার থেকে হাত সরিয়ে দেন। তখন আরও উত্তেজিত হয়ে যান ওই চালক। মারধর শুরু করেন পলাশকে। মারধরের কারণে পলাশ ফুটপাথে পড়ে যান। পরে তিনি ভয়ে সেখান থেকে চলে যান। এরপর ভয়ে পুলিশ সদস্যরা সেখান থেকে যাওয়ার চেষ্টা করলে পেছন থেকে লাথি মারতে থাকেন।
৯০ নং সড়কের ৫ নং বাড়িতে চাকরি করেন রফিক। তিনি বলেন, ঘটনার সময় আমি বাজারে ছিলাম। তবে বাসার সামনে এসে দেখি পুলিশের কয়েকটি গাড়ি। ব্যাপক হট্টগোল চলছে। ঘটনাস্থলে অনেক পুলিশ থাকা সত্ত্বেও ওই ব্যক্তি উত্তেজিত হয়ে বকাঝকা করছিলেন। তাকে কেউ সামাল দিতে পারছিলেন না। পরে আরও দু’টি গাড়ি সেখানে এসে ওই ব্যক্তিকে নিয়ে যায়।
